Leona Elizabeth Tyler
Leona Tyler was born in Chetek, WI in 1906. She was the eldest of four children. Her dad was an accountant and a house restoration contractor. Early in life, her family moved to Mesabi Iron Range, Minnesota. She went to the University of Minnesota and received a BS in English. She taught English for twelve years. Leona continued her education and in 1941 received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. After World War II, Leona established a counseling center for the Veterans of war. She later became president of the APA. She was the eight-first president and only fourth women to hold that title. Leona has many publications, and she has contributed a lot to the field of psychology.
